Morris, Barrie Alexander
1922 - 2005
Born in Vancouver, BC where he spent his early years and met his wife Margaret. Barrie joined the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War and became a pilot instructor. After the war he returned to Vancouver and graduated from UBC. After graduating Barrie rejoined the Air Force in which he had a long, interesting career as a flying instructor training other pilots. He flew jets for NATO, transport planes and final posting was for Air Search and Rescue in Comox.
After retiring from the Air Force he worked for some local businesses, but Barrie continued to do what he loved best and became a flying fireman for many years.
Sports were also important to Barrie. He was very accomplished in sports, an excellent soccer player in the Vancouver area, he played rugby for many years and was the Captain of the UBC Rugby team representing Canada in international tournaments. Barrie also took up golf later in life and enjoyed the sport. If he wasn’t playing sports he was home watching them on TV. Barrie was also seen walking his dog Eric through the streets of Comox for many years.
Barrie will be sadly missed by his loving family. His wife of 62 years Margaret, his daughter Margo Wilson, her husband Ted Edwards of Ottawa and 3 grandchildren Karen, Jocelyn and Steven, daughter Sandra Morris of Courtenay, his son Barrie, wife Roberta of Ladysmith and 2 granddaughters Shelly and Kerri, daughter Chris Annand and her husband Donald of Gold River and granddaughter Kelli, his daughter Carol Knutson, husband Brian of Campbell River and 3 grandchildren, Paula, Barbara and Graham and 8 great grandchildren.
