Arthur Leighton McKay (Art) passed away peacefully on February 7, 2005 after a short illness. He is survived by his wife Helena, his sister Helen, his brothers: Ken and Don, his children: Terry (Betty), Don (Lorna), Tom (Edie) and Stephen (Robbie), his son-in-law Ward, his grandchildren: Kimberley, Stephanie, Shalina, Jennifer, Samantha, Kelsey, Wade, Wendy, Dana, and his great-grandson Connor. He was predeceased by his first wife Betty Jane in 1986 and his daughter Susan in 2003.


Art was born in Fort William, Ontario, the third child of seven children (Marg, Gordon, Art, Helen, Ken, Patricia and Don) of Alexander and Elizabeth McKay.


Art spent most of his working career serving his country in the Canadian Armed Forces. He fought in Europe in World War II as an infantry soldier of the Lake Superior Regiment, was wounded and decorated. Upon being released from the military he joined the Fort William Police Department serving with distinction until he rejoined the military in 1953 as an Armed Forces Police Officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force. In the Air Force he served as a Military Police Investigator, a Kennel Master, a Nuclear Security NCO and ended his service as the Warrant Officer in charge of the guardhouse at CFB Comox, British Columbia.


Art had a great life, got to see a lot of the world, loved his family and had few regrets. He will be sorely missed.
