November 23, 1939 - October 7, 2023
It is with great sadness that we announce Art's passing on October 7, 2023. Although he was born on November 23, 1939, in Massey, Ontario, Art spent more than sixty years here in the Cowichan Valley.
Art is survived by his wife of 60 years Anne, as well as daughters Wendy and Joanne (Sean) and son Chris (Dar) as well as grandchildren Amber, Adam, Brandon, Olivia, and James, and three great-granddaughters Kendra, Ava and Calia, his brother Sterling in the US and sister-in-law Barbara and her family in Sydney Australia as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents Art and Bea, brothers Ron and Maurice, his sisters Betty and Sylvia and dear grandson Mathew.
Art went to work at an early age doing hard jobs including working on a river drive on the Sable River! After moving to the Cowichan Valley he had various jobs, almost all driving, at the old Cowichan Creamery, Co-op Petroleum, Ganderton (Island Farms) and then Top Shelf Feeds. But his very favourite job was driving for Pacific Builders. He was recruited by Ken McKinnon and they became friends as well as boss/employee. He left there after almost twenty years to work as a livestock dealer and hauler which he loved - most of the time! He made many good friends over his years doing that and was very sad when he had to give it up in 2020.
Art and Anne always had a small farm with cattle and sheep, and sometimes, goats or pigs and even a couple of horses! And always one or two border collies at Art's side.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff in Daffodil Wing at Sunridge Care home. They were so kind to Art and his family especially during his final days.
