In loving memory ~

Anne died on January 25th in Port Coquitlam, passing away in her sleep after suffering a suspected heart attack or stroke. She was pre-deceased by her brothers Michael and Pat, and is survived by her son Michael, daughter Aisling, three grandchildren, siblings Jim, Phyllis and John in Ireland, friend and house mate Susan, and many extended O'Hare and Hillian family members.

Anne was born in Newry, Northern Ireland in 1950 and grew up in Warren Point, "where the mountains of Mourne sweep down to the sea". She worked in corporate administration in Belfast and the Middle East before settling with her first husband, Dave Cockle, in Swindon, England where Aisling was born. Anne came to Canada in '83 where she met Doug, and they lived in Courtenay where Michael was born.

Anne was a wonderful mother to Aisling and Michael, and a good friend to many. She loved to laugh and had a special knack for seeing the humour in everyday situations. She also had a gift for telling stories, shaped by growing up in an Irish family that operated the local bakery and knew both the tribulations of sectarian strife and the joys of family and community. In Courtenay, Anne primarily worked as a caregiver to seniors and a respite provider to people with developmental disabilities. Her warm and compassionate personality, heart for the vulnerable and marvelous sense of fun endeared her to many.

Sadly, Anne struggled with a debilitating mental illness that resulted in her becoming isolated from family and friends in recent years. She was fortunate to have housing and support from her friend Susan, and the determined care of her son Michael who continued to reach out and support his mum through her pro-longed illness.

A gathering to commemorate Anne will take place at Piercy's-Mt Washington Funeral Home in Courtenay at noon on March 9th. We will remember her for her kind, caring spirit and her outrageous laughter, and we will be grateful that she is now at peace.

Condolences may be left via dignitymemorial.com.
