Vesterback, Anne Elizabeth
1924 ~ 2003
Born March 24, 1924 in Chaplin, Saskatchewan, Anne died at home in Courtenay, BC on October 27, 2003.
Anne is predeceased by her husband Gus, sister Phyllis, brothers: Norman and Gordon, and grandchildren; Kristina and Daniel.
Anne and Gus moved to the Comox Valley in 1947 and raised a family in “the 40 houses”. Anne’s prodigious artistic flair was manifested by successful forays into watercolours, ceramics, and creative sewing. Her costume design and construction contributed greatly to the success of the Co-Val productions, “Once Upon a Mattress” and “My Fair Lady” among many others. Anne established “Annsew Tailoring Service” and ran it successfully for 15 years. In retirement, she was anything but retired. She sang with the “Clef Hangers”, designed costumes and acted with the “Second Stage Players” and took up the electric guitar, anchoring the senior’s dance band “Heartstrings” as the bass player.
She will be lovingly remembered by her sisters: Edith and Doris (JP), her brother Herman (Gail), her children: Marion (John), Janet (Fred), Carl (Colleen), Ralph (Gwen); her grandchildren: Steven, Dale (Teresa), Kirsten, Colin, Kyle, Ellie; and great grandchildren: Caleb, James and Caitlin; and all other extended family and friends.
A celebration of Anne’s life was held September 13 when she was able to be here and enjoy the company of family and friends. The family appreciates all the help and support afforded them as they cared for Anne in her own home; the home support nurses, the Red Cross and the Comox Valley Hospice Society volunteers. Donations in her name may be made to any of the above or any of the Seniors Center programs. Cremation arrangements were entrusted to PIERCY’S FUNERAL HOME.
