Aug 14, 1920 - Apr 8, 2006

Alice passed away peacefully at her home in Courtenay, surrounded by her family.

She was predeceased by her husband Arthur W. in 1993 and is survived by her sister Mary Jones; daughter Ellen (Doug) Kines; sons: Roy (Dianne), Ed (Norma), Wayne (Janice), and Ian (Sue); granddaughters: Christine, Susie, Debbie, Sarah, Jenny, Ali, Laura and Meghan; grandsons: Greg, Danny and David; and great-grandchildren: Lindsay, Stephanie, Matt, Jessa, Joe, Brett and Katie.

Nana’s home was her castle from which she was the greatest of providers, being an incredible cook and hostess. Over the years, gardening was one of her hobbies. Canadian hockey was a favourite entertainment for her, as well as in past years watching baseball; she was the Leakey Loggers #1 fan. Nana enjoyed sports; she was a strong swimmer and cyclist.

Alice came to the Comox Valley from Scotland in 1927 as a young girl with the entire McCabe family. She married Art in 1941 and during the war years travelled to air bases across Canada with him. The Valley was her home, and they returned to stay in 1945. Alice’s family and many friends filled her life. She was strong and determined in all that she did, this she attributed to the Irish in her. She enjoyed the past 10 years in her retirement home watching family continue to grow.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Green, Dr. Fitzpatrick, Nurse Pat Roberts, and the home support staff for their care and compassion during Mom’s short illness.
