Stockand, Albert William
1926 - 2003
Albert passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, July 12, 2003 after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
He was born September 17, 1926 in Cumberland General Hospital and lived his entire life in Cumberland. He worked in the coal mines from age 15 until 1965. He then worked for a short time at Comox Spit and a short time at Department of Highways in Gold River. The remainder of his working life until his retirement in 1992 at age 65 was spent with MacMillan Bloedel in Kelsey Bay. Albert’s life was his family and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, horseshoes and blackberry picking. He was a wonderful husband, father, Papa and O.P.
He will be forever missed by his wife of 52 years, Ruby, daughter Audrey (Lee), son Jim (Shelley), daughter-in-law, Trisha, grandchildren: Allan, Cheryl, Brenda, Michael, Amy and Jesse, great-grandchildren: Nicole and Brandon, many nieces and nephews and wonderful friends. He was predeceased by his parents, James and Mary, brother, Sam, sisters: Sissy and Audrey (Bud), and son Richard.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, July 17 at 2:00 pm at the Cumberland United Church followed by a tea at the Cumberland Cultural Centre (upstairs). Flowers gratefully declined in lieu of donations in Albert’s memory to Y.A.N.A. or the Canadian Cancer Society.
