A local fire department in Greater Victoria saved the day this week, for a family of ducklings.
Oak Bay Fire Department Acting Assistant Chief Duane Adsett is Twitter famous after an early morning rescue on Friday.
Adsett rushed to Bee Street when the fire department was alerted of ducklings trapped in a storm drain.
“I came down here this morning and there was a number of ducklings trapped in the drain and one still walking around the parking lot here,” Adsett said. “I was able to get the grate open. With assistance of a basket somebody gave me, I was able to scoop the ducklings out of the catch basin and back to mama duck.”

The mother remains with her ducklings outside the lot, unlikely to move soon since the trauma of this morning. Dr. Daisy Dulay is thanked for contacting Oak Bay Fire after finding the trapped ducklings.
