Trips from Victoria to Port Angeles will take much longer this month.

The Black Ball M.V. Coho vehicle ferry’s maintenance dry dock period began Wednesday (Jan. 3), and the ferry will be out of service until Feb. 7.

We will miss you Coho,” Black Ball Ferry Line said in a Facebook post. “We look forward to seeing you all soon.”

In 2023, the ferry was out of service for maintenance from Jan. 3 until Jan. 25. A new emergency generator was installed with a new electric switchboard. Power packs were also replaced, which is needed every 30,000 hours.

Before 2023, the ferry was only in dry dock for four days over the previous two years.

The ferry ride is usually around 90 minutes and can hold 1,000 passengers and 115 vehicles.
