David Campbell is keeping it simple after winning $1 million on Keno.
Still slowly emerging from disbelief after learning of the win Feb. 22, the Victoria man plans to purchase a new computer, take a trip and maybe help others with his massive windfall – the biggest Keno prize ever won in B.C.
“It really hasn’t sunk in. I’m shocked and in disbelief,” he said in a BC Lottery Corporation news release.
Campbell enjoyed a few games on PlayNow the evening of Feb. 21 and went to bed before checking to see if he was a winner.
The next morning, he was pleasantly surprised to discover he’d matched all 10 numbers and the 5x Keno Bonus from one of the draws.
“When I saw the million-dollar win my first thought was, ‘I need a new computer,’” Campbell said. “Then I thought maybe someone was punking me.”
Once the news settled in that the win was real, Campbell told his best friend, prompting a “Yeah right”.
Campbell has plans to use his prize to help those around him and also looks forward to enjoying some travel, in addition to treating himself to a new computer.
“I have a handful of grateful people around me and plan to celebrate helping those people,” he said.
In 2024, B.C. lottery players redeemed more than $247 million in winnings from Keno.
