Starting in March, YYJ will raise the short-term parking fee to $4 for two hours.
This affects the parking lot right in front of the terminal building, which is used by those picking up and dropping off passengers. The ‘pay upon entry’ lot is based on an honour system.
According to Victoria Airport Authority (VAA) CEO Elizabeth Brown, the rates for the other parking areas remain unchanged. "We encourage people to use those lots should they be leaving their vehicle at the airport for longer periods of time."
VAA provides a variety of parking options including short-term and two long-term lots, all of which have EV charging. There are currently two EV charging in the short-term lot, six in Lot 1 and another 16 in Lot 2.
A "reservation option" may be added in the future, said the airport authority, depending on which parking operator takes Robbins Parking's place. The parking operator's contract with the airport expires at the end of March.
Daily long-term parking at YYJ costs $1 per half hour, $18 per day maximum for each of the first five days and $9 per additional day. Monthly parking costs $180 (+ GST) per month for a minumum of two consecutive months.
With the exception of the $2 increase in the short-term lot, the parking rate increase at YYJ over the last five years is still well below what other airports in North America would charge for what is deemed as "premium parking" directly across from the terminal building, VAA added.
