While it may not have technically been the coldest night of 2024, the Coldest Night of the Year walk was a success, according to the executive director of the Comox Valley Transition Society.

On Feb.24, hundreds of walkers took to the streets of Courtenay to walk and raise funds for the organization along with Dawn to Dawn to support some of the communities most hurting with housing and food. This year, both organizations are bringing on additional housing and the funds raised will help the projects be completed and operational.

Heather Ney of the CVTS noted in a release the Valley community raised more than $175,000. While the goal is $200,000, donations can be accepted until March 31.

Since its inception in the community in 2016, the Comox Valley has raised more than $1 million. Nationally, the fundraising walk raised more than $13.4 million with 6,322 teams (or 40,399 walkers) in 190 locations across Canada.

To donate cash or cheques, visit the CVTS at 625 England Ave. in Courtenay or visit
