Emergency responders rescued three people from the ocean after their sailboat capsized in the Mud Bay/Fanny Bay area Saturday.
Around 1:45 p.m., the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre dispatched the Cape Cockburn lifeboat from French Creek. The RCMP auxiliary SAR from Deep Bay also attended, along with a Cormorant helicopter from 442 Squadron in Comox.
“The helicopter lowered a SAR Tech into the water, and they found three people in the water,” a JRCC spokesperson said.
The helicopter was about to hoist the three people, but a zodiac that responded to the mayday broadcast picked them up.
