Tree recycling not that pricey

We somehow priced Christmas tree recycling out of the reach of most people when we said Wednesday that you can have your tree picked up for a minimum $50 donation.

We somehow priced Christmas tree recycling out of the reach of most people when we said Wednesday that you can have your tree picked up for a minimum $50 donation.

That should have read a $5 minimum donation, of course.

You can bring your natural Christmas trees and a cash donation to the Comox or Courtenay fire stations this Saturday or Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. or the Cumberland fire station Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

For a minimum $5 donation, firefighters will pick up your tree at your home. For tree pickup, call 250-339-2432 in Comox, 250-334-2513 in Courtenay or 250-336-2531 in Cumberland.

Comox fire chief Gord Schreiner says, “This is a great project and a win-win for all involved.

“The Christmas trees get recycled as compost and the firefighters help out their favourite charity,” he continues. “Another great example of how our Valley firefighters work hard to make our communities better places to live.”

We regret the confusion caused by one extra little zero, which meant much more than nothing in this case.
