Thrifty Foods to open second store in Comox Valley

Following the purchase of a 12.3 acre parcel of land from Crown Isle in December 2009, Thrifty Foods confirmed Thursday the company will open a second location in the Comox Valley, anchoring a new shopping centre.

The retail complex, which will be located at the corner of Ryan and Lerwick roads, will be complemented by a range of other class A commercial tenants.

"The Comox Valley has grown tremendously since Thrifty Foods opened the Courtenay store there in 1994," said Jim Dores, president of Thrifty Foods in a press release.

"After researching the area extensively, we recognize the growth potential of this vibrant community and we are ready to begin construction on a brand new retail centre in the Comox Valley."

The retail centre is expected to be complete in 2012 provided all of the necessary approvals are granted and work proceeds on schedule.

The new location will be the 29th store for the company, and the third retail outlet to be developed in the coming year.
