Sustainable economy, proactive healthcare priorities for LaRue, Greens

When I decided to run for the nomination for the BC Green Party in the Mid Island-Pacific Rim riding, it was with the belief that they shared my vision for the future.

As a mother, I saw that many British Columbians were struggling to make ends meet and trying their best to create a future for their children.

The Green Party has a vision for the future that makes me feel better when I think of what will be there for my daughter. They are not just thinking about how to get elected this time around, they are looking to the future and considering what they can create that is sustainable and economically beneficial for the whole province.

I have been a member of the federal Green Party for more than a decade, and as I investigated the BC Greens I realized how parallel our beliefs are. A year ago I joined the BC Greens, and when they asked if I was interested in entering the election race I decided it was time to take action and stand up for the things I believe in.

The Green Party recognizes that economic opportunities are essential for people. Our sustainable economy proposals are designed to seize the opportunities our natural resources afford us through innovation, efficiency, value-added, and intrinsic benefits by promoting their stewardship and sustainable use.

One of the most important considerations in any province is the health of its residents.

While B.C. has a strong public healthcare system, the province’s approach to healthcare has been largely reactive, rather than proactive. It is widely accepted that primary prevention is better and more cost-effective than attempting to cure a health issue after it has already taken hold. Therefore, the BC Green Party is proposing an approach that will, in the long term, mean less reliance on acute care, taking the strain off our healthcare system and improving quality of life provincewide.

In order to build a strong province, we must invest in education. The BC Greens are offering a concrete plan to remodel our education system for the emerging economy. We will implement evidence-based solutions to ensure all British Columbians receive the educational support they need to live healthy, fulfilling lives.

Our public education system is chronically underfunded. This isn’t just tough on kids and families, it also ignores that education is the best investment society can make.

The BC Greens believe government has one job that is more important than anything else – the health and wellbeing of the people it serves. We also believe that every person has a right to reasonable accommodation.

Around the world, as the effects of climate change take hold, food security is projected to become a major issue. To ensure the long-term food security of the people of B.C., we must develop an agricultural sector that can provide for us all.

The BC Green Party’s plan is to make a significant investment in B.C.’s agricultural sector.
