BC Highway Patrol impounded a Ferrari after a driver was clocked going 137 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on the Malahat on May 21.

At about 10 a.m. an officer with the BC Highway Patrol Capital Regional District Integrated Road Safety Unit was doing speed enforcement in an unmarked police vehicle near Aspen Road when she saw a newer model white and black Ferrari travelling quickly in the northbound lanes.

The Ferrari had Alberta licence plates and had just passed several other vehicles when it caught the officer’s attention, who established it was in fact speeding: 57 km/h over the limit.

The driver, an Alberta woman in her 20s, was given a ticket for excessive speeding. The owner, a man in his 30s, came to get the driver, and was told his Ferrari was being impounded for seven days.

“BC Highway Patrol would like to remind motorists that May is High-Risk Driving Awareness Month in B.C., and police agencies throughout the province are making our highways safer together by stepping up enforcement of unsafe driving behaviours,” said a press release.
