The Village of Cumberland hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday to celebrate the completion of the highly anticipated Village Park Skatepark.

The facility has been under construction since March and opened to skaters early-July. The professionally designed and constructed park includes 5,500 square feet of hand-sculpted, butter-smooth concrete shaped into street, bowl, flow, and mini-ramp features.

鈥淭he Cumberland skatepark has been years in the making,鈥� Mayor Leslie Baird said. 鈥淚鈥檓 so excited to see construction completed and it enjoyed by our local youth. This skatepark makes Cumberland an even better place to live and visit.鈥�

The skatepark is part of a significant capital improvement project to the southern area of Village Park, which also includes the construction of bicycle dirt jumps and a pump track. The overall value of the project is $460,000. The jump park is slated for completion in July.

Most of the project funding was contributed by the Village, with additional money from the Cumberland Community School Society and the United Riders of Cumberland via fundraising events, grants, and in-kind donations.
