The Comox Valley RCMP have placed one person in custody following a report of a robbery on Sept. 22 in Courtenay.
On Sunday, a woman called the RCMP to report that she had been assaulted at a business on Cliffe Avenue, near 17 street. The woman said that she had seen an unknown man in a parking lot, and asked the man if he needed help. The woman alleges he then assaulted her before taking her wallet.
The 64-year-old woman then called 911 for help, and was transported to the hospital for medical treatment.
Police identified the suspect using surveillance footage, and arrested him on Sept. 23. On Sept. 24, he was charged with robbery and assault causing bodily harm and is being held in police custody pending a court appearance.
This appeared to be an unprovoked attack. I am proud of the response and efforts made by our investigators to apprehend the person believed to be responsible.
Said Inspector Scott Mercer, Officer in Charge, Comox Valley RCMP.
The woman suffered non-life threatening but serious injuries and is expected to recover.
