UPDATE: RCMP have three suspects in custody after a drug bust in Nanaimo earlier today. According to RCMP, a search warrant was executed on Kiara Place in Nanaimo, 鈥渞elated to the activity on Hammond Bay Road,鈥� but there is no drug lab at the property on Kiara Place. Three Nanaimo residents are in custody.

PREVIOUSLY POSTED: RCMP are in the process of 鈥渃leaning鈥� out a drug lab in Nanaimo.

Sgt. Warren Krahenbil said the RCMP鈥檚 federal serious and organized crime unit along with the clandestine enforcement and response (CLEAR) team executed a search warrant on Hammond Bay Road at about 10 a.m. Tuesday.

鈥淲e鈥檝e uncovered a drug processing facility there, a moderate clandestine lab鈥︹�� Krahenbil said. 鈥淭he CLEAR team鈥檚 going to be in there cleaning that out.鈥�

Krahenbil said the Nanaimo RCMP detachment 鈥渉as been excellent鈥� in providing assistance and said he wants to assure residents that public safety is paramount.

鈥淭here鈥檚 no public safety risk at this point,鈥� he said. 鈥淭here鈥檒l be no evacuations, we won鈥檛 be sealing off any more road.鈥�
