A man was arrested in Victoria on Tuesday night (Jan. 30) after he was reportedly swinging a hatchet 鈥渁round鈥� people downtown.
VicPD said officers responded to the area near the 1200-block of Government Street after receiving several calls about the incident around 7 p.m.
As officers approached the man, VicPD said he ignored commands and pulled the hatchet out of his jacket. That prompted officers to shoot a beanbag round at the man鈥檚 thigh before he was arrested.
The man wasn鈥檛 injured but was taken to hospital, as police said that鈥檚 their policy after using a beanbag shotgun. The man was medically cleared and was released from police custody with the condition that he appear at a court date.
A VicPD news release didn鈥檛 say if the man has been charged.
