A park in Crown Isle has been renamed after a late community member and public servant.
The Crown Isle park off of Malahat Drive formerly named “150 Year Grove” has been renamed to “Stan Hagen Nature Park.” A ceremony formalized this the morning of Thursday, Aug. 24., and was hosted by the City of Courtenay.
Several dignitaries were invited to speak at the event, such as Stan Hagen’s surviving life partner and wife Judy Hagen. Friends and colleagues also spoke, sharing stories about times in their lives that they were impacted by Hagen.
Courtenay Mayor Bob Wells hosted the event.
Former MLA Stan Hagen had a long history of community service. He served on the Courtenay Advisory Planning Commission, the School District 71 board, and acted as member of legislature representing the Comox riding for nearly 15 years.
In 2009, Hagen was into the Comox Valley Walk of Achievement. The local honour is given to community members who have “made significant and lasting contributions in their professional or personal lives.”
Hagen began his life in local politcs in 1972, four years after moving to Comox Valley with his wife Judy. He died in 2009, while standing as the member of legislature for Comox.
