A person was removed from the school grounds at Georges P. Vanier Secondary School Wednesday morning.
RCMP and School District officials confirmed there was an incident, but that the reality was different from some of the speculation on social media during the morning. There were rumours online such as a man with a gun coming to the school or a knife fight breaking out, with someone injured.
“There was an isolated incident at G.P. Vanier School today. An individual was escorted off the property by the RCMP,” a spokesperson for the school district said via email.
Any reports of weapons were not accurate, though the school was placed in lockdown as a safety measure. The RCMP confirmed they attended following a report of an altercation outside the school, and they are continuing to investigate the incident.
Last week, the school was also placed under a hold-and-secure order, again with much speculation online about the origin.
School District 71 does provide information about the terminology used in such situations, such as a lockdown versus hold-and-secure, with the latter referring to security threats outside a school.
