A new connection between Highway 19 and north Courtenay is now open.
The new North Courtenay Connector - which was officially opened Friday - is a 700m long roadway which connects Headquarters and Piercy roads north of Dove Creek Road, making a continuous route between Vanier Drive and Condensory Road, with no stop signs or signal lights.
A multi-use trail was built alongside the river, and road shoulders were also widened and paved between the new bridge and Condensory Road.
The bridge replaces the one-lane crossing of the Tsolum River, located on Dove Creek Road.
Construction of the project began in 2016 at a cost of $15 million.
