A Nanaimo woman is ‘set for life’ after a huge scratch ticket win.

Vera Strand won the top prize of $675,000 on a Set for Life ticket she purchased at Fairway Market, according to a B.C. Lottery Corporation press release Wednesday, Oct. 11.

Strand bought “one of her favourite” purple Set for Life tickets, but didn’t get around to scratching until a few days later, when she sat down with a cup of coffee and the “special dime” she uses for scratching tickets. She won on the first game of the ticket.

“I FaceTimed my daughter to ask her if I was seeing things,” said Strand, adding that she feels “gobsmacked” to be a lottery winner.

She hasn’t decided yet on any major purchases with her winnings, but in the meantime she’ll celebrate with some “nice family dinners.” The money will provide some added security for retirement, she said.
