Motorcyclist dies in crash on the highway in Nanaimo

Incident happened at old Island Highway and Oliver Road early on June 12

A motorcyclist died in an early-morning crash on the old Island Highway today in Nanaimo.

Nanaimo RCMP say the collision happened a little after 5 a.m. at the intersection of the old Island Highway and Oliver Road. Investigators were told that the motorcyclist was travelling northbound and collided with a southbound vehicle that was turning onto Oliver.

B.C. Ambulance Service was called to the scene but the man who had been riding the motorcycle was pronounced dead 20 minutes later and B.C. Coroners Service was advised.

A section of the old Island Highway was closed and police are continuing their investigation.
