Man arrested in Cumberland for impersonating a police officer

A Comox Valley man has been charged with impersonating a police officer, among other charges, after an incident in Cumberland on Aug. 6.

According to an RCMP social media release, at approximately 12:30 a.m. a man allegedly followed someone from Courtenay to his home in Cumberland. The man approached the victim and identified himself as an off-duty police officer.

“Several witnesses, including the victim, were keen enough to realize something was not right and called police,” said Comox Valley RCMP Const. Monika Terragni. “Fortunately, a police officer was in the area, quickly arrived and arrested the suspect.”

Comox Valley RCMP would like to reach out to any witnesses who have not yet communicated with investigators. The suspect was driving a black Dodge Ram 1500 with silver decals, a black cargo rack, and stickers that read K9 on Duty on the rear windows. Additionally, he is described as a tall man who weighs approximately 80kg with a shaved head and short cropped beard.

Marc Drescher has been charged with impersonating a police officer; uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm; dangerous operation of a conveyance, and; mischief. His first court appearance is Aug. 31.
