The Japanese government is recognizing Coun. Bronco Moncrief of Cumberland for helping to elevate the status of Japanese Canadians and for promoting friendly relations between Japan and Canada.
Moncrief will be awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, gold and silver rays, at a conferment ceremony July 23 at the Cumberland Cultural Centre.
Moncrief, whose given name is William, is a former mayor of Cumberland.
