UPDATE 1:30 p.m.: Island Highway north of Sayward junction now open

Road had been closed after a semi-truck involved in an incident blocked the highway completely

The Island Highway north of Sayward closed due to an accident Friday morning is now open, a social media post from the Village of Sayward says.

An accident involving a semi-truck had blocked the highway 51 km. north of Campbell River between Sayward Road and Rainbow Road.

The road is now open to both northbound and southbound traffic.
