B.C.鈥檚 independent office that investigates police actions where someone was hurt or killed has cleared the Sooke RCMP of any wrongdoing after a man鈥檚 death last summer.

The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. wrapped up its investigation into the incident on Tuesday.

At approximately 1:50 p.m., Sooke RCMP were called to a residence on Kemp Lake Road by a man who appeared to be in emotional distress. Officers responded to the scene, but the man was later found deceased.

鈥淭he IIO鈥檚 General Counsel has reviewed the evidence 鈥� including police statements, 911 recordings, police radio transmissions 鈥� and determined there is no causal connection between any action or inaction of an officer and the affected person鈥檚 death,鈥� the Office stated in a statement.

鈥淏ased on the available evidence, police actions could not have prevented this tragic death.鈥�
