B.C.’s independent office that investigates police actions where someone was hurt or killed has cleared the Sooke RCMP of any wrongdoing after a man’s death last summer.

The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. wrapped up its investigation into the incident on Tuesday.

At approximately 1:50 p.m., Sooke RCMP were called to a residence on Kemp Lake Road by a man who appeared to be in emotional distress. Officers responded to the scene, but the man was later found deceased.

“The IIO’s General Counsel has reviewed the evidence – including police statements, 911 recordings, police radio transmissions – and determined there is no causal connection between any action or inaction of an officer and the affected person’s death,” the Office stated in a statement.

“Based on the available evidence, police actions could not have prevented this tragic death.”
