The third annual Fit for Heart aquacise events promises fun, fitness and fundraising at the sports and aquatic centres March 3 and 4. The CVRD is helping get the message out that choosing to make regular activity part of your life is a vital link to a healthy heart. People of all ages and fitness levels are invited to join one or both aquafit classes. Each class will be followed by a different presentation and healthy snacks will be available for sampling."The purpose of these events is to raise awareness of prevention of heart disease and to raise funds for the Heart & Stroke Foundation," said Jennifer Dickins, CVRD’s manager of recreation programs. "Heart disease and strokes are responsible for one in three Canadian deaths every year — a staggering statistic. We need to help improve the health of Canadians through physical activity and health promotion.” Join the Power Hour class at the aquatic centre March 3 from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. followed by a Couch to 5K presentation by the Comox Valley Roadrunners. Or join the senior’s aquafit class at the sports centre on March 4 at 1:15 p.m., followed by a presentation on ways to reduce our waste from Power of R educator Gayle Bates. Fit for Heart pledge forms are available from the sports and aquatic centres and can be dropped off at the event. Regular admission rates apply.
