The last time Christine Fisher was in St. Joseph鈥檚 General Hospital, she was delivering her oldest daughter 12 years ago.

She was back New Year鈥檚 Day to deliver her fourth child 鈥� Dayton Marcus Deveaux, who is the Comox Valley鈥檚 first baby of 2011.

Dayton was born at 3:21 a.m. to Fisher and Michael Deveaux, who live in Cumberland.

He weighed six pounds and 15 ounces.

Dayton was due Jan. 13, but Christine鈥檚 first three children were all born at 37 and a half weeks, and they were a bit worried he would be born at Christmas.

鈥淲e didn鈥檛 want a Christmas baby for his sake,鈥� said Michael.

Christine, who was supported by midwife Emma Gledhill of Plum Midwifery, went into St. Joseph鈥檚 at about 2:45 a.m. New Year鈥檚 Day, and the family left the hospital by 6 a.m.

鈥淚t was like he was determined to be born in 2011,鈥� she said.

Christine was surprised to have the New Year鈥檚 Baby.

鈥淎t the hospital, they were just so giddy and excited,鈥� she said.

Dayton is Christine鈥檚 fourth child, a little brother for two-and-a-half-year-old Nodin, six-year-old Chelsea and 12-year-old Mika.

鈥淗e鈥檚 really good,鈥� Christine said Sunday morning. 鈥淗e鈥檚 so good, so quiet. I think I鈥檝e only heard him cry twice since he was born.鈥�

鈥淗e鈥檚 definitely a healthy boy,鈥� added Michael. 鈥淗e鈥檚 already so strong and moving on his own.鈥�

This year, the first babies born on Vancouver Island and in British Columbia were also boys.

The first baby of 2011 in B.C. was Cayden Wilcott, who was born at 12:01 a.m. at B.C. Women鈥檚 Hospital and Health Centre in Vancouver. Bryan Coon, who was born at 12:54 a.m. at Victoria General Hospital, was the first baby on Vancouver Island.
