There were no injuries after a car caught fire on Dove Creek Road, north of Courtenay on Saturday, Dec. 10.
The occupant of the car made the 911 call himself, at approximately 4:30 p.m.
“No injuries to report - the gentleman was on his way home when he saw smoke coming out of the engine department,” said Courtenay Fire Chief Kurt MacDonald. “He pulled over and found out the car was on fire. We don’t know the cause yet, still under investigation, but we can say it definitely started in the area of the engine compartment.”
MacDonald said the car was not salvageable.
“Total write-off,” he said. “By the time we arrived on scene it was fully involved - it had actually gone through the firewall between the engine compartment and the passenger compartment and had already pretty much taken out the whole interior of the vehicle as well.”
