Entomologist to lead Comox Valley Horticultural Society in designing climate-resilient gardens

On Sept. 16, Linda Gilkeson will be the guest speaker at the Comox Valley Horticultural Society meeting where she will share how to design resilient food and ornamental gardens to help our plants survive the extreme weather conditions.

Gilkeson will also show one can make a difference in our gardens to mitigate climate change including designing landscapes to capture carbon.

She earned a Ph.D in entomology from McGill University in 1986 and was awarded the Queen’s Jubilee in 2003. She’s an accomplished author with books covering organic gardening, pest management and weed and disease control. Gilkeson is a regular instructor in the master gardener program in B.C. and is busy year-round giving workshops on pest management and organic gardening.

In addition to the meeting, there is also a garden harvest display and contest. Bring a food bank donation to help those in need in our community.

The meeting is set for the conference hall in the Florence Filberg Centre in Courtenay. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting will begin at 7:15 p.m. Zoom registration is required for both members and non-members.

Current members will receive a separate Zoom invitation. Registration for non-members ($5.50) is very simple – visit our website at by 5 p.m. on Sept. 13, as it requires two days to process.
