Dog days of summer adventures on the road

What’s one of the best things you’ve done recently – for me it was a road trip during the dog days of summer! Being a dog, I especially love road trips except the one time I had my ball in my mouth, my head out the window of our car and I accidentally dropped my ball on the Malahat. It was too dangerous to pull over and get it.

I live next door to Pet Treat Bakery, who make all-natural beef, chicken and liver treats without any additives and they employ adults with disabilities. Tony the manager let me ride along when he hit the road to see customers. It was a beautiful day. We went down Island to Qualicum Pet Foods at 166 First Ave. in Qualicum. They rescue cats too. I was tempted to jump out the window and cause mischief, but I didn’t want to get Tony into trouble.

Next stop was a new customer, Animal Ark in Port Alberni, 3020 3rd Ave. It turns out that they are administered by Ineo, a society much like Beaufort Association for Inclusion in Action and operate a Social Enterprise like Pet Treat Bakery. Animal Ark is a locally owned and operated Pet Supply Store that sells all kinds of raw and nutritionally superb foods.

Then it was on to Buckerfields in Nanaimo at 1277 BC-19 who sell pet specialty items, feed, livestock supplies, fencing and a whole lot more. They will be at the Cowichan Exhibition Sept. 13-15th and Nanaimo Sept. 20-22nd at the VIEX Country Fair in Beban Park where my favourite dog treats from Pet Treat Bakery are being handed out at their booth.

So, the next time you’re on a road trip with your pooch, don’t forget a water dish, water and their favourite pet treats.
