A GROUP CALLED the Comox Valley Challenge included this graphic in its submission package for the Living City Design Competition.

After two months of exciting and challenging work, including many late nights in the final two weeks, a group calling itself the Comox Valley Challenge entered the Living City Design Competition. The group from the Comox Valley design, engineering and urban planning community digitally submitted its entry into the International Living Building Institute-sponsored competition. The colourful design package included two 24x36-inch presentation panels that explained how the submission addressed each of the seven petals of the Living Building Challenge 2.0 — site, water, energy, health, materials, equity and beauty. The winner will be announced at the Living Futures Un-conference April 28 in Vancouver hosted by the Cascadia Chapter of the Canadian Green Building Council. Each Living City Competition team was challenged to envision a city that explicitly met all 20 of the Imperatives of the Living Building Challenge 2.0 with the end result rooted in solid ecological and architectural principles.“Our team chose to redesign the entire Comox Valley,” states local architect Tom Dishlevoy. “We started by studying and getting to know the land in our region."We further advanced our understanding of this place by meeting with local experts on agriculture, history, transportation, affordable housing, construction and all facets of our regional infrastructure.  The entire team learned so much about where we live and this was instrumental in forming the basis for our design.”— Comox Valley Challenge
