Residents of Courtenay can voice their concerns this summer, as the city attempts to check the pulse of the public.
The City plans to hear from 300 citizens for fifteen minutes each, in July and August. The phone-call survey will identify “top of mind community issues” in town, helping council develop policy — and ahead of the 2024 budget process.
The city expects a shift in public issues since 2013, when transportation was the most common answer. At that time, 98% of respondents rated their quality of life as “good” or “very good,” according to a report at the June 14 council meeting.
The “Your Courtenay, Your Voice” survey will cost approximately $30,000, the report said. Surveying the public was identified as a strategic priority for 2023 and 2024. Funding will come from the Corporate Services budget.
Answers will be weighted against the most recent Census data to get a set that represents the demographics of Courtenay. Courtenay is hiring an opinion-polling company to create and execute the survey.
