With Lt.-Gov. Steven Point in attendance, Courtenay Legion Branch 17 is in full planning mode for the unveiling of the wall of recognition in Jubilee Square.
On July 16, the unveiling ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m., to be followed by a luncheon in the upper hall of the legion, attended by the lieutenant governor.
The wall on the side of the Sid Williams Theatre is home to three sets of murals recognizing Canada's armed forces, RCMP and merchant navy in war and peacekeeping operations.
Spearheaded by Legion member Ron Webber, the mural project is the product of five years of painstaking searches for the best images that depict all segments of the Canadian Forces inclusive of the contributions of women and First Nations.
The project team involved at various times include legion presidents, staff at the Courtenay and District Museum, the City of Courtenay and ABC Printing.
Funding was made available through a grant of $3,000 from the Comox Valley Foundation obtained in partnership with the 4H Leaders' Junior Society.
Legion members and the Ladies Auxiliary to Branch 17 also donated generously to the project.
Tickets for the luncheon are available at the Legion.
