Comox Valley Search and Rescue evacuated injured hiker near Comox Glacier

The rescue team was summoned after receiving a distress signal from the hiker’s watch

The rescue team was called after receiving a distress signal from the hiker’s watch. Comox Valley Search and Rescue (CVSAR) deployed shortly after receiving the distress signal last Sunday (May 19).

Teams were flown in by RCMP Air Services to locate the man from Victoria. The lone hiker was found stuck on a ledge above Century Sam Lake in Strathcona National Park.

After assessing and stabilizing his injuries, the the man was loaded onto a stretcher. 49 North Helicopters assisted ground teams by transporting the man to BCEHS at Courtenay Air Park.
