SD71 is looking for people to be host families for international students next year.

Comox Valley Schools is looking for host families to host international students in the upcoming school year.

The district's International Student Program is actively seeking families to host students, who come from various countries around the world every year. This year, over 250 students came to the district from 24 different countries. Additionally, 30 local students had the chance to study in Japan, Spain, Germany, and France.

However, these students need somewhere to live.

"Becoming a host family offers a culturally rewarding experience, supported along the way by the ISP team to ensure a smooth and positive journey for both families and students," says a release from the district. "Whether you have children attending our schools or are an empty nester, hosting an international student offers the joy of learning about new cultures and making a meaningful impact on a young person's life."

The district is encouraging people in the community to help make the Comox Valley even more vibrant by embracing diverse perspectives and fostering new friendships. Host families also receive a tax-free honourarium each month to help support students.

People interested in hosting a student are encouraged to contact Youn Hee Edmonds at Younhee.edmonds@sd71.bc.ca or Krista Oliphant at Krista.oliphant@sd71.bc.ca for more information.
