In a fundraising effort, a Comox Valley photographer is looking for local dogs to pose for an international photography book.

Kristen Nicholson owns Fit Fido Dog Training and Fit Fido Furtography and is seeking 10 dogs to be photographed and featured in Tails of the World: Volume 3.

“This is the second year I’m doing this (fundraiser) and last year 97 photographers around the world and 756 dogs were featured in the book,” explains Nicholson. “All money raised will be donated to charity.”

Each session with Nicholson is a donation of $150, with all funds going to North Amity Dog Rescue, a non-profit based in the Cowichan Valley dedicated to saving and improving the lives of dogs in U.S. and Canadian shelters that are at risk of being euthanized due to a lack of space and resources.

The photos will then be submitted for publication in the book, set to be published Dec. 1. All proceeds from book sales will also go to animal charities around the world.

“This is a special project that gets me out in nature scouting locations, dreaming up gorgeous pups and their parents to adventure with to these locations to create gorgeous artwork together,” says Nicholson, who adds the photo sessions should take around 30 minutes, with locations ranging throughout the Comox Valley.

Last year she photographed dogs at the Trent River, Air Force Beach, Nymph Falls and the Comox Valley Exhibition Grounds.

Caitlin J. McColl founded the Tails of the World Collective in 2015, with a dream to unite pet photographers across the globe. To date, the books have raised more than $95,000 US for animal charities, with more than 1,150 dogs photographed around the world.
