In 2024, Osprey Electric, announced they were giving away a solar project to a worthy non-profit organization in the area - St. George’s United Church was chosen out of 14 applications, based on criteria that included building ownership, community stewardship, and suitability of the target building.

The solar system provided and installed by Osprey Electric earlier this year at St. George’s, valued at more than $25,000, was made possible in part by donations from Charge Solar, a supplier to Osprey, and LONGi Solar, the manufacturer of the solar panels.

The project consisted of installing 26 405-watt LONGi solar modules, which are connected to a series of 700-watt microinverters and a racking system clamped to the church's metal roof.

According to Osprey’s Solar Manager, Richard Wayte, it is estimated that this solar system will generate 11,666 kWh in its first year-- defraying nearly 25 percent of the church’s annual energy consumption, which will save the church approximately $1500 per year on hydro expenses.

“It is rewarding to offer such a community-oriented initiative that will have tangible results for an organization that does so much good in our community.” Wayte says.

“We are so grateful that Osprey chose St. George’s as the recipient of this year’s outreach program to help non-profits," adds Rev. Ryan Slifka, minister at St. George’s. "We are pleased that St. George’s has this state-of-the-art system that will help us reduce our environmental footprint and save the Church money.  We’d rather use those funds for our own community giving than pay hydro bills for sure.”

St. George’s United Church, which opened its doors in 1913, is a growing congregation (including a thriving children’s church), that welcomes people wherever they are on the faith journey.  Sunday services are at 10:30 a.m., and all are welcome.
