Residents who are planning to fly to or from Calgary from Comox today (Jan.12) may have to make alternative plans as WestJet has cancelled flights due to winter weather.
As of 11 a.m., WestJet flight 3171 arriving in at the Comox Valley Airport at 12:35 p.m. has been cancelled, as well as departing WestJet flight 3172 at 1:15 p.m.
In a post on social media, WestJet noted due to an extreme weather alert at the Calgary airport and across the larger prairie region of Canada, temperatures are impacting flights.
The temperature has dropped below the threshold at which de-icing fluid is effective and rendering equipment such as bridges and fuel stations, the statement noted.
“Unfortunately, weather challenges are expected to continue, and we anticipate proactive cancellations in order to support a safe operation for you and our crew. Our team is working to re-accommodate guests affected as quickly as possible,” WestJet added.
WestJet flights from Nanaimo Airport are delayed to and from Calgary, and some flights from Victoria International Airport to and from Calgary have either been cancelled or delayed.
