Canadians can begin voting soon in federal election

With the federal election a little more than two weeks away, knowing where to vote is as important as choosing a candidate. With 89,063 registered voters in the Vancouver Island North riding, voters have the option of voting at advance polls on April 22, 23 and 25, on election day, at an Elections Canada office or by mail.

Visit www.elections.ca or call 1-800-463-6868 if you have not received the card, are not registered to vote, or to look up the address of the station.Advance polling stations are open from noon to 8 p.m. for the three days.To vote at an Elections Canada office, you can register to vote by special ballot. The special ballot registration deadline is 6 p.m. April 26.Staff will ask to you to complete and Application for Registration and Special Ballot form. You can vote in the office, or take the kit home and return the completed special ballot to the local Elections Canada office by election day deadline.To vote by mail, you must complete an Application for Registration and Special Ballot form. You can download the form via the Elections Canada website, get a paper copy at any Elections Canada office, any Canadian embassy or by calling 1-800-463-6868.To vote, you need to show one original piece of identification with your photo, name and address. It must be issued by a government agency such as a driver's licence.You can also show two original pieces of identification, and both pieces must have your name and one must have your address such as a health card and hydro bill.Another option is to take an oath and have an elector who knows you vouch for you.
