The ambulance stationed behind Comox Town Hall will operate from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m Tuesday to Friday, BC Ambulance has confirmed.

It will respond to calls in town during these extended hours of service. The vehicle had previously served as a transfer car in a broader area.

“This is a big step forward in improving ambulance service in the town and we are very pleased to have played a part in providing this enhanced level of service in co-operation with BC Ambulance to our citizens,” Mayor Paul Ives said in a news release.

BC Ambulance is expected to continue to monitor call volumes over the next few months.

Until recently, Comox relied on ambulances based out of the Cliffe Avenue station in Courtenay. Cumberland also has a dedicated station while Comox previously had no ambulance to go with a fire hall and hospital.
