The ambulance stationed behind Comox Town Hall since early-January will operate from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday to Friday, the BC Ambulance Service said this week.
The vehicle had previously served as a transfer car in a broader area.
鈥淭his is a big step forward in improving ambulance service in the town and we are very pleased to have played a part in providing this enhanced level of service in co-operation with BC Ambulance to our citizens,鈥� Mayor Paul Ives said.
Until recently, Comox relied on ambulances based out of the Cliffe Avenue station in Courtenay. Following a 90-day trial period, BC Ambulance will look at call volume statistics as it builds on the service.
鈥淲e anticipate a reduction in call (response) times,鈥� said Mike Aubie, district superintendent of the Comox-Strathcona division of BC Ambulance.
