The Comox Valley Regional District will have a new chair this year, as Area A incumbent, and CVRD chair, Bruce Jolliffe will not seek re-election.

Daniel Arbour and Jim Elliot are the two candidates for Electoral Area A (Baynes Sound-Denman/Hornby Islands), which was Jolliffe’s riding.

Area B (Lazo North) incumbent Rod Nichol, who earned the most votes of any CVRD candidate in 2014, will have a formidable challenge for the riding, as Arzeena Hamir has declared her candidacy.

Incumbent Edwin Grieve will seek re-election in Area C (Puntledge-Black Creek), where Jay Oddleifson will challenge for the position.

There are five candidates for Hornby Island’s two council seats on the Islands Trust. Alex Allen, George Buvyer, Ron Emerson, Peter Kimmerly and Tony Law have all declared candidacy.

Allen and Law are incumbents.

Fellow incumbents Laura Busheikin and David Critchley will be acclaimed as Denman Island councillors.

Visit the CVRD website at for all information on polling stations.
