Jazz Parmar loves hockey, and when his son started playing, the whole family started following the local teams more closely.
“We go to Glacier Kings games as much as we can,” says Parmar, who owns Ashley HomeStore in Courtenay. Ashley is a platinum sponsor of the Comox Valley Glacier Kings, and provides employment to junior hockey players seeking work. “I try to help young kids in the community as much as I can.”
Locals helping locals
Hockey isn’t Parmar’s only passion, and Ashley HomeStore supports many other local charities and initiatives as well.
“We’re locally owned and operated, and it’s very important that we support the community as much as we can. The community has been very supportive of us as well.”
Parmar says he’s definitely noticed an increase in local support since the pandemic began, and he and his team have worked hard to adapt to changing challenges.
“When COVID first hit we stayed open by-appointment only, and then continued to follow all COVID-protocols when we re-opened to drop-in customers. We tried to be flexible to offer help to any seniors who needed extra support, and still delivered across the Comox Valley.”
The latest challenge facing the furniture industry — and most consumer goods — is supply chain disruptions, but Parmar says his 15 years of experience and connections has ensured their store remains fully stocked.
“We switched gears right away to focus on locally made products. With my experience I was able to source products from different places and we’ve kept loading inventory to make sure people get their deliveries on time. We have a lot of Canadian-made products, and keep a lot more in stock so customers don’t have to wait months for ordered items.”
Largest store in the Valley
Ashley HomeStore has furniture for every room in the house, including a large mattress gallery where you can try before you buy. They have the largest showroom in the Comox Valley.
“We try to cover everything, including items at every price point,” Parmar says. “We also carry a lot of home decor, wall art and accessories, if you’re looking to do some last-minute holiday shopping.”
