Rob Hendrickson, of Black Gold Landscaping Supply in Courtenay, has added a selection of flat stones and dimensionally cut rock to their lineup of available materials.

The cooler temperatures and occasional rainy day mean one thing for homeowners and gardeners: fall project and planting season is here!

After all, while summer is too hot for the heavy lifting of creating a new rock patio, path or retaining wall, and you certainly don’t want to plant trees, shrubs or a new lawn in the dry weather, autumn presents the perfect opportunity for both, explains

The plants are just the first part, though – as any gardener knows, your garden is only as good as your soil!

Locally owned and operated, Black Gold Landscaping Supply has been serving the Comox Valley with quality landscaping supplies since 2003, specializing in rich soil, mulch, compost, sand, gravel and rocks.

“This fall, a lot of people will be looking after their lawns once we get a little rain, and the cooler overnight temperatures help keep the seed damp so it can germinate,” Hendrickson notes.

“And for garden beds, a good layer of mulch will help prevent heavy rains from compacting soil, and protect roots from freezing.”

Many of Black Gold’s soils, composts and mulches are made on-site, with additional materials sourced from the central and North Island, Hendrickson says. And newer to the lineup is a selection of flat stones, available in three colour options, and dimensionally cut rock in 1’ x 2’ and 2’ x 2’ sizes.
