Save the date! The 51st annual Market Day is happening on July 22.

Courtenay’s annual is back for it’s 51st year!

Taking place Saturday, July 22 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the popular event offers a day full of walking, shopping, eating and family fun in downtown Courtenay, says Tracey Clarke, Executive Director of the event host, the Downtown Courtenay Business Improvement Association.

“Market Day is the Valley’s largest street fair and we welcome everyone from the community to enjoy the eats, treats, sights and experiences of Downtown Courtenay at this special summer event.” she notes.

So with so much to see and do, we’ve narrowed down our top five reasons why you won’t want to miss this years Market Day Street Fair!

  1. 100+ local vendors: Easy access to amazing local products is always a main draw at Market Day and this year is no exception! Featuring all your favourite downtown merchants, local artists, makers and creators of all shapes and sizes, there’ll be no shortage of opportunities to curb your craving for retail therapy.
  2. Funtastic family activities: Sure to be a memorable Saturday with no short supply of engaging and interactive activities for kids of all ages, families can look forward to face painting by Magical Faces, a petting zoo from Barnyard Party Animals, arts and crafts hosted by Comox Valley Art Gallery, roving circus performers from Ignisia Circus and the opportunity to see some very large trucks up close thanks to Courtenay’s public works and fire departments.
  3. Delicious food and treats: Come hungry and leave happy! Dine-in at one of Downtown’s delicious restaurants or get take-out to enjoy onsite. Savour festival food truck treats like shaved ice and mini donuts while you shop.
  4. Live entertainment: This year’s Market Day will include two live performance stages: a main stage on Duncan Avenue and a secondary stage on England Avenue that will host a variety of solo acts and performances. The main stage will host live bands starting at 11 a.m., with shade tents and seating available.
  5. New interactive displays: New interactive activities include a Recreation Station at Duncan Avenue and 4th Street, hosted by Foveo Running! If you’re interested in learning about local outdoor recreation clubs, activities and wellness providers available in the Comox Valley, the Recreation Station is for you. Run to Beer, CV Wheelchair Sports Society, The Grove Wellness and many other clubs, teams and wellness providers will provide information and demonstrations throughout the day. Find the Recreation Station near the free bike lock-up on lower Duncan Avenue.

And as always, plan ahead for a great day. “Plan to bike, bus or walk to the event, or access plenty of parking just outside the Downtown core.” Clarke suggests.
